Embracing equity: International Women’s Day 2023 at WOLF

It’s International Women’s Day 2023!

Ever since the conception of WOLF, we have prided ourselves on our steadfast commitment to embracing gender equity. Each day we continue to extend this ethos across all facets of our business, through driving diversity at work and empowering female consumers in the MENA region.

Today is our opportunity to highlight and celebrate the female staff talent we boast here at WOLF, as well as raising awareness on the vital presence, contributions, and experiences of women within the tech sector.

Women In Tech

As part of our efforts, we conducted a short questionnaire with all our female employees, to gain a greater insight into their careers in technology and their time at WOLF so far. The tech industry has long been dominated by men, but women are now breaking barriers and making their mark in the field. From engineering to product management and leadership, women are increasingly taking on key roles and making significant contributions to the tech world and our organisation is no exception.

“When I first went into IT, approximately 8 years ago, the only women that worked there were the Customer Service Team and the Receptionist. Now I see women in all sorts of roles: Developers, Product Manager's, Solution Architects and even higher up in management. I think it’s great.”
Louise
Content Product Manager

Despite the growing number of women in tech, the industry still faces numerous challenges when it comes to gender diversity. However, the impact that women are having on the tech industry cannot be ignored. Studies have shown that companies with more gender diversity tend to perform better financially, and that diversity of thought and perspective leads to better products and services.

Women are also using technology to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. From developing applications that improve healthcare access, to creating platforms that promote gender equality, women are leveraging their skills and expertise to create a better world. Our female employees are exemplary of this, through their contribution to increasing access to entertainment for women in the MENA region.

It’s important to celebrate the achievements of women in tech and to encourage more females to pursue careers in the industry. This can be done by offering mentorship programmes, promoting female role models, and creating inclusive work environments that support diversity and equality. By breaking down barriers and achieving greatness in the tech industry, women are paving the way for a more inclusive future.

“There are stacks of opportunities and as long as you are willing to learn and have a supportive working environment, you can progress quickly. All tech is fast-paced and constantly evolving, just like the tech itself. The industry generally has great flexibility too which is important to retain ladies in tech.”
Roumila
HR Manager

We’ve been greatly inspired by the work being done by Women in Tech UK, and want to thank them for the hugely insightful results of their 2023 survey, which you can read here.

Celebrating IWD at WOLF

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2023 with our users, our annual Alhan Festival has been underway since February. The Alhan Festival is a gathering of the female talent and other communities that exist within WOLF, encouraged through community-led programmes, events specially curated by our WOLFStars creators, and groups hosted weekly by female influencers currently making an impact within the region.

The main event, however, is a talent competition showcasing female singers and talk-show hosts, the best of whom advance through auditions, qualifiers and semi-finals, before the WOLF users whittle it down to 9 contestants for the final event taking place 8th March 2023.

In anticipation of the announcement of this year’s winner, let’s look back at our reigning singing champ of 2022’s contest Reema. Her amazing vocals won her first place in the competition, as well as the opportunity to record her very own song. Check out what she produced below.

Watch this space in WOLF’s Newsroom for this year’s winner!
